Relationships are the mirrors which reflect the deepest parts of our selves – parts we often do not even know we possess. It is through the intimate relationships in our lives that our inner emotional worlds find a script in the world. It is through our intimate relationships that we reflect the patterns of our childhood and the unresolved issues of our past. Because of their potency, our relationships can carry the potential for much turmoil and emotional destruction but also, if examined and resolved, hold the power for great spiritual advancement. Therapy is a powerful way through which we can help weave through the pitfalls that are inevitable in intimate relationships and clear the way for mutual empowerment and restoration.

In order to thrive, relationships need to be predicated on trust, respect and loving communication. This of course means that each within the relationship is able to manifest these qualities. Negotiating the emotional needs of the self along with those of another is a challenging task indeed. It is here that therapy plays a valuable role in helping both within the relationship find their way towards themselves and towards each other.

Families are created with the intention of love and respect. Almost every family and parent-child relationship was first conceived with this intention. However, as our families grow – our children mature, we age – we find that sometimes things go awry. Our children may be out-of-control and defiant or our spouses may be depressed and angry. Regardless of the reason, most of us confront a time in our family-life where things are just not working. This is the time we need to reach outside of ourselves to a therapist to help us re-align, re-focus and re-connect.

Dr. Shefali holds tremendous respect for the daily work and commitment it takes to nurture families. She is dedicated to helping each individual within the family-matrix realize their unique inner voice thereby contributing to a healthy and resilient family-system. She is the author of two parenting books. For more information on these books click here.

Appointment Information

Insurance

In order for us to set realistic treatment goals and priorities, it is important to evaluate what resources you have available to pay for your treatment. If you have a health insurance policy, it will usually provide some coverage for mental health treatment. I will fill out forms and provide you with whatever assistance I can in helping you receive the benefits to which you are entitled; however, you (not your insurance company) are responsible for full and timely payment of my fees. (In other words, I bill you, you pay me, and your insurance company reimburses you.) It is therefore important that you find out exactly what mental health services your insurance policy covers.

Cancellation Policy

Once you have made an appointment, cancellations require a 48-hour window, barring emergencies. I am extremely understanding and willing to be flexible during unforeseen times, and am willing to reschedule appointments to the best of my ability. However, a payment will be charged if you are unable to maintain your appointment in a non-emergency situation or if attendance is inconsistent.
